Scientific Literacy Tool – Privacy Policy
The following “Terms of Use” govern your use of our:
- Website at literacytool.com (the “Website”);
- literacytool.herokuapp.com (“private area of our Website”)
- The Scientific Literacy Tool extension/Literacy Tool extension (the “Extension”) downloaded from the Chrome store;
- The “literacy tool” social media (“Social media”);
which will be collectively referred to as “Services”.

2. Who can use the “Scientific Literacy Tool” Extension?
2.1 The use of the Extension and private area of our Website is restricted to our registered users. You must keep your password private, confidential and secure as well as inform us if you suspect any breach to your account or unauthorized access to your password. We reserve the right to disable any such compromised account.
2.2 Once registered with us, we grant to you a limited, non-exclusive, personal, non-transferable, and revocable license, in accordance with these Terms of Use, to download, install and use the Extension and corresponding private area of our Website for science learning or education purposes.
2.3 You must be 13 years old or older to use any of our Services.
3. Using the “Scientific Literacy tool” Services
3.1 Except as permitted by local law, when you download Extension and/or register to the private area of our Website, you undertake:
- To use our Extension and private area of our Website in agreement with the Terms of Use;
- Not to copy, rent, lease, sub-license, loan, translate, merge, adapt, vary or modify the whole or any part of our Extension and/or private area of our Website, nor allow our Extension and/or private area of our Website or any part of them to be combined with, or become incorporated in, any other program;

3.2 You acknowledge that we are the owner of or the licensee of all intellectual property rights in our:

- Extension and corresponding private area of our Website, except third party content;
- The material published on the Literacy tool Social media by any employee or authorized representative of Literacy Tool Ltd.
that you have no rights in or to our Website, private area of our Website, Extension, or Social media other than the right to use them in accordance with these Terms of Use.
4. Acceptable use of our Services
4.1 You may use our Services only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these terms of use.
4.2 “User Content” means any original material you post on or through our Website, private area of our Website, Extension, or social media – including, without limitation, comments, personal profiles and communications with other users. We do not claim any ownership rights in your User Content. After posting or uploading your User Content to the Website, except for the permissions granted to us in paragraph 4.3, you continue to retain all your rights in such User Content.

5. Failure to comply with these terms of use

5.2 Upon any failure to comply with these Terms of use, we reserve the right, at any time and upon our own judgment, to take all or any of the following actions (and/or any other action we find appropriate):

- temporarily or permanently delete any of your posts or materials you uploaded to any of our Services;
- Proceed with legal action against you including proceedings for reimbursement of any cost on an indemnity basis resulting from the breach;

For the purpose of the UK Data Protection Act 1998 (the “Act”), the data controller is Literacy Tool Ltd.

Events: When you register to one of the events we organise we collect the information you provide either through the third-party event services (Meetup or Eventbrite) or directly to us.
By using our Services the following information will be saved in our servers:
- Registration information: your email address and password.
- Your account: Information uploaded to your account by using the Extension and corresponding private area of our Website are saved (websites, terminologies, and resources you choose to explore using the Extension as well as any other information you might choose to add to your account).
- Comments and feedbacks. Your comments, posts, questions, requests, feedbacks, as well as email(s) you send us are saved.
11.2 Cookies
We also collect information by using cookies (Google Analytics) that help us:
- evaluate our user base;
- administer, secure and improve our Services.

Third-party websites: We use Social media such as Facebook and Twitter, websites such as Meetup and Eventbrite to organise events, and Mailchimp to send emails. We use cookies for Google analytics on our website. The Scientific Literacy Tool also links to various third-party websites. We try our best to only use and link to reputable websites but we cannot be held responsible for the privacy of data collected by sites we do not manage, nor can we accept responsibility or liability for those policies. For this reason, you should consult the privacy policy on any external website you use or link to before you submit any data to those websites.
11.5 How long will we keep your personal information?
We only hold your data as long as necessary to provide you with our different services and as long as you allow us to.

11.6 Editing and deletion of your information
You can edit and delete any personal data you upload to the Service, except any content you choose to share with others (such as a social media post or comment, or a Scientific Literacy Tool board you chose to turn public).

To control or unsubscribe to mailing lists you are signed up to, you can either contact us directly or follow the link at the bottom of any newsletter we send.
11.7 Where do we store your information?
Literacy Tool LTD took all reasonable steps to make sure your personal information is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy and in compliance with the European data protection regulations. Yet, we use third-party servers (Heroku) and several services (Facebook, Twitter, Meetup, Eventbrite, Mailchimp, Google Analytics) to store and process your information. The transmission of information via the internet is never 100% secure and we therefore cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to and from any of our services. This means any such transmission is at your own risk. In cases when we use external websites provided by other organisations such as Twitter, Facebook, Meetup, Eventbrite, Mailchimp – then we would recommend you consult their respective privacy policies.
Cross-border transfer of your information
We are using a server service which is distributed in several countries, hence, your information may be transferred to other countries. By using our Service you consent to the transfer of your information to countries outside of your country of residence, which may have different personal data protection rules than in your country.
